If you wish to live temporarily or permanently with your partner in Australia, the Partner Visa may be the right choice for you. This visa allows the spouse or de facto partner of an Australian citizen, permanent resident, or eligible New Zealand citizen to reside in Australia. The visa class you apply for depends on whether you are currently living in Australia or overseas.
Applying Within Australia
Subclass 820: Partner Visa (Temporary)
- This temporary visa is available to applicants who are currently in Australia. It serves as a pathway to obtaining a permanent partner visa.
Subclass 801: Partner Visa (Permanent)
- The permanent partner visa allows you to live permanently in Australia. To apply for this visa, you must already hold a valid temporary partner visa (Subclass 820).
Applying from Outside Australia
Subclass 309: Partner (Provisional) Visa
- The Subclass 309 visa is a provisional visa for applicants residing outside of Australia. It allows you to enter and stay in Australia temporarily.
Subclass 100: Partner (Migrant) Visa
- The Subclass 100 visa permits you to permanently migrate to Australia to live with your partner. However, to apply for this visa, you must hold a valid temporary Partner Visa (Subclass 309) at the time of application.
